Terms of service, in plain English.

The service

Site Blacksmith designs, builds, hosts, and manages websites for local businesses as a monthly subscription. Your plan determines what we handle for you — from hosting and updates to search optimization and social media. Plans are described on the pricing page; the plan you choose at signup is the agreement.

We may improve what a plan includes over time. We will never quietly remove something you're paying for.

The free preview

We build your website preview before you pay anything. The preview costs nothing, requires no payment details, and creates no obligation. You only subscribe if you approve it. Previews that are never claimed may be taken offline after 30 days.

Billing & cancellation

Plans are billed monthly, in advance, with no setup fees and no long-term contract. You can cancel at any time — your website stays live through the end of the billing period you've paid for, and nothing renews after that.

Introductory offers (like a discounted first period) apply once per business, on your first subscription only.

You can upgrade or downgrade at any time; changes take effect at the start of your next billing cycle.

Who owns what

Your domain name is yours. If we registered it on your behalf, we transfer it to you at no charge if you leave.

Your content is yours: your business name, photos, text, logos, and customer inquiries. We hand these over on request, whether you stay or go.

The website design — the layout, code, styling, and everything we built — is part of the service you subscribe to, and it remains ours. While you subscribe, it works for you and we maintain every part of it. If you cancel, the website comes down and the design stays with us.

The design buyout

If you ever want to leave and keep your website, you can buy the design outright: a one-time payment of 12 months of your current plan rate. You receive the complete site files, ready to host anywhere, and every ownership restriction above stops applying to it. After a buyout we no longer host, maintain, or update the site unless you start a new plan.

What we expect from you

You confirm the content you give us — text, photos, claims about your business — is yours to use and accurate. We build websites for lawful businesses only, and we may decline or end service for content that is illegal, deceptive, or harmful.

What you can expect from us

We work to keep your website fast, secure, and online, with daily backups and monitoring. No host can promise perfect uptime, and we don't either — but keeping your site healthy is the job, and problems we can fix, we fix.

Our liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the twelve months before a claim. We're a website service, not insurers of business outcomes — we work hard for results, but we can't guarantee specific rankings, traffic, or revenue.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a way that matters, we'll tell you before it affects you — not after. Continuing to subscribe after a change means you accept it. Questions about any of this: use the contact form and we'll answer plainly.
